A West End Date Night in Brisbane

The weather was too good to stay home, so we put one of our favourite Brisbane date night ideas to the test.

There’s a very specific kind of Brisbane evening that makes sitting on the couch feel almost criminal. And it's usually always in Spring.

It’s warm, the sun is still hanging around and suddenly another night of takeaway and “what do you want to watch?” feels like a wasted opportunity.

So I roped my partner into leaving the comfort of the couch and headed to West End for a date night.

No huge plans. No special occasion. Just an ordinary night that felt like it deserved to be a little better.

First stop: Soak Bathhouse West End

We started at Soak Bathhouse West End, on the rooftop at West Village.

And this is probably my favourite kind of date night activity because there’s actually nothing you have to do.

We grabbed our towels, got changed and spent the next 90 minutes moving between the warm pools, hot pool, sauna, steam room and cold plunge.

Phones away. Nowhere else to be.

There’s something quite nice about having time to actually talk to each other without sitting across a dinner table or absent-mindedly checking your phone every few minutes.

And because Soak West End is on the rooftop, you get that particularly Brisbane combination of warm weather, fresh air and the sun going down around you.

Then we made a night of West End

The other reason I love Soak for a West End date night is that it doesn't need to be the whole date.

West End already has so many places to eat and drink that you can soak first and head somewhere for dinner afterwards, or do it the other way around.

West Village also has two hours of free parking, which makes the logistics considerably less romantic to discuss — but considerably easier.

We finished our soak, got changed and headed out for dinner. Nothing groundbreaking happened. And I think that's kind of the point.

Maybe Tuesday is the occasion

We have a habit of saving date nights for birthdays, anniversaries or weekends when we've planned something weeks in advance.

But some of the best ones are the nights you nearly stayed home.

If you're looking for a date night in Brisbane, something to do in West End, or simply an excuse to get out of the house while the weather is good, a soak followed by dinner is a pretty excellent combination.
